In order to ensure Universia's commitment to accessibility and in accordance with the principles of accessibility and universal design, Universia works to ensure that all citizens – with special attention to people with any type of disability – who interact with it through the Internet can access information and electronic services on equal terms, regardless of their personal circumstances, means, or knowledge. That is, they can navigate without encountering access difficulties for this website.
Accessibility Features of this Website
- Text Size. The website is optimized for desktop and mobile. The font sizes have been defined so that it is possible to enlarge or reduce their size from the browser options.
- Compliance with XHTML and CSS standards: correct coding can be interpreted correctly by users' browsing devices and, particularly, by special devices used by people with functional limitations.
- Design, navigation, and interactivity. Efforts have been made to achieve consistent navigation throughout the website, following the same structural schemes on all pages. The color and contrast of the elements are designed to be appreciated correctly by all people.
- Links. In general, the links on the portal are meaningful, aiming to be self-explanatory regarding their function.
- Accessible development of forms: so that the ability to make inquiries, submit requests, conduct content searches, enroll in programs, and, in general, the interactivity function presumed on the web is not limited.
- Browsers that do not support CSS. In case of accessing the portal through a browser that does not support CSS, the semantic markup allows for the correct display of all content.
In applying these measures, Universia works on development and maintenance in accordance with the accessibility guidelines defined by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) working group of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), taking into account.
- WCAG 2.1 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) standards from W3C (World Wide Web Consortium), at its recommended level (AA).
- W3C Recommendation on Cascading Style Sheets, Level 2 (CSS 2.1).
- Use of HTML code verifying HTML5 recommendations.
To ensure these features, Universia has implemented a series of tests and defined a series of working tools:
- Screen readers: VoiceOver (osx) and TalkBack (Android) to verify that the elements of the page are accessible and understandable through screen readers.
- Automated audits: automated accessibility audits using Lighthouse, Axe-core, and Accessibility Insights to identify and correct possible accessibility barriers.
- Contrast and color tests: tools to analyze contrast and color visibility, ensuring that content is readable and suitable for users with color blindness or other vision difficulties.
- Manual keyboard navigation tests: to confirm that interactive elements are accessible without the need to use a mouse.
- Testing on different devices: mobile devices with iOS and Android operating systems, as well as in desktop environments.
- Implementation of accessibility patterns: design patterns for components based on W3C recommendations, ensuring that all interactive components are accessible.
